Chapter 18
Harriet Tubman
was a born a slave in Maryland's Dorchester County around 1820, being injured as a teen, later married a free black around 1844, John Tubman. Fearing that she might be sold on the plantation she ran away with other slaves in 1849 following the North Star by night, making her way through Phildalphia where she found work and saved money. Later rescuing her family members and husband, however he found another wife. She continued to help slaves seek freedom and escort them to the North through the Underground Railroad.

Was born on June 14,1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut. She took a strong abolitionist stand which was influenced from her father, Lyman Beecher. When Congress passed the Fugitive Slave Law in 1850, Stowe then decided to express her feelings through a literary representation of slavery thus writing her first novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin in 1851.

Moving to the United States at the age of 11, where she wanted to pursue a career in medicine being accepted to the Geneva Medical College in Upstate New York in 1847, being the first woman to graduate from a medical school in the U.S. She then created a medical school for women in the late 1860s, believing that maintaining sanitary conditions was an important aspect of health.

Seeing that the military was a great way to earn a free education, he entered the Army Corps, then being the commanding leader of the Confederate Army of Virginia during the Civil War, with his first combat and war took place during the Mexican-American War, capturing John Brown at the raid at Harpers Ferry and commanding many Civil War battles.

By 1882 he had a near monopoly of the oil business in the U.S. which has helped revolutionize America today. Rockefeller later devoted himself to philanthropy then passed away in the year of 1937.

Writing two major classics during the Gilded Age, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Before he was a journalists for a newspaper in Virginia City, then continued on to head west. He became one of America's best known author with American classics, having to pass away on April 21, 1910.

During Roosevelt's presidency as the 26th president,founded the Bull Moose party, got the nickname as the "Trust-Buster" because he was a very determined loud president, also he set up his foreign policy, urged many reforms and aimed for ecological preservation.

Wald to establish the United States Children's Bureau in 1905.

After Victoriano Huerta's group, Villa formed his own army to oppose Porfirio Diaz, with more battles to follow as Mexican leadership. Villia became a top military leader due to his knowledge of the land, reading ability and skills of the Mexican Revolution, which signed a contract with Hollywood's Mutal Film Company in 1913 to have several of his battles filmed. Villa was assassinated on July 20, 1923 in Parral, Mexico.

In 1928, Hoover was elected president, however when the stock market crashed, he failed to recover the nation. Thus people gave poor cities the name, "Hoovervilles" during the Great Depression. Therefore once the presidential campaign returned, he lost his reelection due to his deficits upon the U.S.
